Neuroanatomy: Decoding the Fly Brain
نویسندگان
چکیده
Despite their relatively small brains, with only about 100,000 neurons, fruit flies show many complex behaviours. Understanding how these behaviours are generated will require a wiring diagram of the brain, and significant progress is being made towards this goal. One study has labelled 16,000 individual neurons and generated a coarse wiring diagram of the whole fly brain, identifying subnetworks that may carry out local information processing.

Neuroanatomy: Connectome Connects Fly and Mammalian Brain Networks
A recent study shows that brain connectivity in Drosophila melanogaster follows a small-world, modular and rich-club organisation that facilitates information processing. This organisation shows a striking similarity with the mammalian brain.
متن کاملKey considerations in designing a speech brain-computer interface
Restoring communication in case of aphasia is a key challenge for neurotechnologies. To this end, brain-computer strategies can be envisioned to allow artificial speech synthesis from the continuous decoding of neural signals underlying speech imagination. Such speech brain-computer interfaces do not exist yet and their design should consider three key choices that need to be made: the choice o...
متن کاملPlastination and Staining of Brain Slices Using Two Different Dehydration Methods
Introduction: Unstained formalin-fixed whole brain specimens and brain slices do not give satisfactory results for teaching neuroanatomy. In addition, difficulties in obtaining human brains for dissection have increased the demand for more durable brain specimens that have been obtained by the plastination technique. In the present study brain specimens were sliced, fixed and stained using...
متن کاملNeuroArch: A Graph dB for Querying and Executing Fruit Fly Brain Circuits
NeuroArch is a database for codifying knowledge about fruit fly brain circuits. It is designed with two user communities in mind: (i) neurobiologists interested in querying the database to address questions regarding neuroanatomy, neural circuits, neurons, synapses, neurotransmitters, and gene expression, and (ii) computational neuroscientists interested in the instantiation of models of neural...
متن کاملDecoding emotional prosody: resolving differences in functional neuroanatomy from fMRI and lesion studies using TMS.
BACKGROUND Prosody conveys information about the emotional state and intention of others. Lesion studies have shown that damage to the right posterior temporal region is associated with prosody decoding deficits. Dissimilarly to findings from lesion studies, neuroimaging data show substantial bilateral peri-Sylvian activation. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to investigate the involvement of the l...
